WHAT IS NGO?
NGO is registered 'for promoting commerce, art, science, sports, education, research, social welfare, religion, charity, protection of environment or any such other object', and profits, if any, or other income is applied for promoting only the objects of the NGO.
NGO Registration can be of three types
-
Company under Section 8 of Companies Act, 2013.

Society under Society Registration Act, 1860.

Trust under Indian Trust Act.
Section 8 Company is registered with Central Government's Ministry of Corporate Affairs while a Trusts and Societies are registered under State Government regulations.
WHAT IS SECTION 8 COMPANY?
Section 8 company is the most popular form of NGO registration and has more credibility among donors, government and other stakeholders. It has more benefits than traditional charitable institutions (i.e., Society and Trust) and is registered under the Companies Act, 2013. It is easy to register, run and manage.
The main objective of Section 8 Company is to promote arts, sports, commerce, science, religion, social welfare, charity and environmental protection. Section 8 company can be registered both as a private limited company or a public limited company.
After registration of Section 8 Company, following registration are required to be taken to avail all benefits of NGO:-
1. Section 12 A Registration.
2. Section 80 G Registration.
3. DARPAN Registration,
4. Registration to undertake CSR activities,
5. FCRA Registration.
